"It will come about in that day," declares the Lord God, "that I will make the sun go down at noon and make the earth dark in broad daylight."  Amos 8:9  written 750 b.c.

It was the third hour when they crucified him.  The written notice of the charge against him read:  The King of the Jews.  They crucified two robbers with him, one on his right and one on his left.  Mark 15:25-27

From the sixth hour until the ninth hour, darkness came over all the land.  Matthew 27:45

It was now about the sixth hour and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, for the sun stopped shining and the curtain of the temple was torn in two.  Luke 23:44-45

At the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"  Mark 15:34

During this point in history, the day started at six in the morning.  Therefore, the sixth hour was twelve noon.  Jesus hung on a cross for six hours so you could be reconciled to the Father.
